I'm quite late to this (as we're already nearing Christmas!) but I heard about this $5 Goodwill Challenge over on YouTube, which is where I think it originated. Essentially the idea is, every season you take $5 to your local Goodwill or thrift store and see what season related items you can find for $5 or less. I am all about that thrift store life, so I jumped on the opportunity to try this.
Our Goodwill didn't have many fall related items, and our Goodwill prices seem a bit high compared to most -- so I struggled a little to find the right things. I ended up picking up a throw blanket ($1.99), a candle dish ($1), and two fall leaf wall decorations ($1 a piece) for a grand total of $5!
I'm not quite sure yet what I'm going to do with the leaf decor, I considered spray painting them white as I think it could be nice year round. The candle dish, I have arranged on one of our coffee tables, but I think it would also look nice as a centerpiece with some seasonal items on our dining table. The throw blanket I have draped over the couch in our "fireplace" room, which I've decided will be the room that will house all of our seasonal décor.
I had a lot of fun with this and hope to do the "winter/Christmas" challenge soon! Have you ever done anything like this? What goodies did you find?
